Myrtle Beach Photo Scanning Questions

What Myrtle Beach families ask before parting with a box of old photos: how the entire process works, which Horry County towns we cover, what photo scanning costs, and what we can scan.

We staff an office up at Little River, but the scanning bench is at our Matthews location, so old photos from Horry County travel there by tracked shipping or come in person if you are heading inland. Rather than imply a drop-off point we have not confirmed, call first and we will tell you the simplest route.

Salt air is hard on prints, so pack them dry and snug enough that they cannot shift, and use a carrier with tracking. Your originals come back when the scanning is done, along with the digital files on a USB flash drive or DVD. Those are ordinary image files rather than a proprietary viewer, so they load straight into Google Photos or anywhere else. Call (843) 738-1579.

All of Horry County — Myrtle Beach itself plus Socastee, Surfside Beach, Garden City, North Myrtle Beach, Little River, Atlantic Beach, Briarcliffe Acres, Conway, Longs, Loris and Aynor — along with the rest of the Grand Strand. That reaches Murrells Inlet, Pawleys Island and Georgetown down the coast.

Photo scanning is not a route service the way our shredding is, so a beach address changes nothing about how the job runs. Collections arrive by tracked shipping from anywhere on the Strand, and every one is scanned by the same staff on the same equipment and returned in the same digital formats. If your community is not named above, call and ask.

Photo scanning is priced per photo, and the rate drops as the count goes up, so a full collection costs less per image than a small batch. A minimum job charge applies, which means a single envelope and a few hundred prints land closer together than you would expect. Scanning at 600 dpi costs more per photo than 300 dpi, and most families run the whole collection at 300 and pull a few dozen favorite photos at 600.

Photo enhancements are included in the scanning price rather than sold as an upgrade, and labeling your sets from index cards you slip into the box costs nothing. Custom folder organization runs a small per-folder fee. Because the work is done here in the Carolinas, the job typically costs 10 to 25% less than the national mail-in services. Quotes are free — tell us roughly how many old photos, slides and albums you have.

Yes to all three. 35mm slides are scanned at 2500 or 4000 dpi depending on how much detail you want pulled out of the film, and prints up to 8x10 run through the automatic feeder. Anything up to 11x17 is captured overhead, including scrapbook pages holding multiple images, which come back as separate scanned images. Photos still mounted in an album are scanned and cropped in place.

Grand Strand collections often carry decades of beach summers — slide carousels, wedding albums, church directories, clippings curled and gone brittle. Fragile prints and thick stock go on the flatbed rather than the feeder, sorted at intake, so one photo digitizing service covers the whole box. Once those precious memories exist in digital formats, we can shred and recycle any originals you no longer want for a percentage of the job cost.

“They pulled the truck right up to our building and we watched every box go in. Scheduling was easy, the price was exactly what we were quoted, and the certificate was in my inbox the same afternoon. This is how it should work.”
