Charlotte VHS Transfer Questions
What Charlotte callers ask most about video transfer: where to bring tapes, which towns we cover, what a box of VHS costs, and how large archives are handled.
Our centralized transfer facility is in Matthews, so Charlotte is one of the few places where dropping old home movies off in person is genuinely the easy option. You are welcome to bring the box to our Matthews location during business hours.
If crossing town is a nuisance, tracked shipping works just as well and we will give you the shipping address when you call. Either route puts your video on the same equipment, returns the same digitized videos, and sends your original tapes back to you. Call (704) 351-0949 and we will tell you which one makes more sense for your box.
All of Mecklenburg County — Charlotte itself plus Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson — along with Union County towns like Indian Trail, Stallings, Weddington, Waxhaw and Monroe. North and east we cover Concord, Kannapolis and Harrisburg, and west into Gaston County for Gastonia, Belmont and Mount Holly.
Tapes also come up from Fort Mill, Rock Hill and Tega Cay across the South Carolina line, which is a short trip to Matthews. Because analog media travels by mail or drop-off rather than by truck, your address does not limit the digital conversion. Families send family videos through the same process, and a box of video from Waxhaw is treated no differently than one from uptown.
Tapes are $20 each for one to five, $18 each for six to nineteen, and $15 each at twenty or more, so a full box works out cheaper per tape than a couple. Reel-to-reel film is priced separately at $30 per reel. A flash drive runs $9 to $25 depending on how much video it has to hold, or you can bring an unopened drive of your own.
Price does not change with video quality — a clean tape and a badly worn one cost the same to run, and both come back as MP4 video in the same digital format. Quotes are free and there is no contract to sign. Once your digital copies are made and you are finished with the originals, secure destruction and recycling of the tapes is an optional add-on at 10% of the job cost.
Yes, and volume is where the pricing gets friendliest. Charlotte churches, schools, broadcasters, agencies and law firms tend to surface a closet of old VHS tapes nobody has been able to play in fifteen years, and anything over twenty tapes lands at the lowest per-tape rate for digital conversion. Mixed formats are fine, and we can convert VHS tapes alongside Betamax, Hi8 and MiniDV in one order.
Larger projects usually pair with something else on the list, whether that is microfilm, paper records, or destroying the old drives the video was eventually copied onto. Call (704) 351-0949, tell us roughly how many tapes you found, and we will quote the whole archive at once.
